Solid Air is our Bamberg-style smoked lager, also referred to Rauchbier, inspired by our trip to Bamberg, Germany in the Fall of 2019.
Rauchbier typically features upwards of 100% smoked malt in the grain bill and ranges from amber to dark brown in color. Variations in taste and color are apparent from brewery to brewery, owing to their tradition of malting barley over smoke in-house. Rauchbier remains drinkable and accessible despite its heavy smoke character; it's shockingly easy to enjoy pint after pint (which is exactly what you do while visiting the beer culture capital of the world).
Solid Air is made with 70% Bamberg-origin, beechwood-smoked malt and is amber brown in color. We brewed this beer to dial up the pleasant chocolate notes we remember from our visit to Bamberg. While the first few sips may wrap you in smoky flavor, don't give up; your palate will adjust, yielding to chocolatey warming goodness. Big notes of Hershey's chocolate, creme bruleé, cappucino foam and maple candy.
